Raiffeisen Switzerland statements: Excel CSV or XML?

Raiffeisen Switzerland explicitly recommends Excel CSV for private customers and ISO XML for business users with accounting software in its account-data download help. Use that native route before considering PDF conversion. The download preview also gives a booking count, which provides a practical completeness control. Keep the issued PDF separately when you need the bank’s account document and balance context.

Get the right document first

  1. Log in to Raiffeisen Switzerland E-Banking.
  2. Open Payments and then the data-transfer area described in the account-data download help.
  3. Choose the account-data download control.
  4. Select the account, format, account data and booking-detail options required for your review.
  5. Record the preview booking count, then download the file; use E-Documents separately for the issued PDF records.

The source navigation is published in German, French and Italian; the English descriptions here explain the actions. Follow the corresponding labels in the language of your own E-Banking session.

PDF statement or native transaction export?

Excel CSV is a text-based export that can be imported into Excel; it is not necessarily an XLSX workbook. Raiffeisen’s ISO XML option is intended for software that understands the structured format. Renaming an XML file to .csv does not convert it, and copying its raw tags into Excel is not a meaningful transaction import.

Raiffeisen’s E-Banking features describe PDF E-Documents, including annual account records. These preserve issued-document context. If you already have a suitable native account-data export, use the PDF for checking rather than rebuilding the same rows with OCR. Keep the selected booking detail and period with the export.

Checks that matter for this account

  • Preview booking count

Compare the downloaded row population with the preview count, allowing for headers or non-transaction records. Investigate unexplained differences before calculating totals.

  • Selected booking detail

Record which detail options you requested. A summarized entry and its underlying detail should not both be counted as separate cash movements.

  • CSV and XML are different schemas

Choose the format your working tool actually supports. Preserve the original file and document any transformation into a spreadsheet.

  • Annual and shorter periods

An annual PDF and monthly exports can overlap. Use a period register rather than combining them as independent transactions.

Build a spreadsheet you can review

Import CSV with delimiter and number parsing previewed. Preserve IBAN, long payment references and source descriptions as text. Keep booking and value dates distinct if supplied, and add the source account and currency before merging files. Compare the row count with the recorded download preview.

For a synthetic CHF account, CHF 1,750.00 opening plus CHF 600.00 credits minus CHF 225.00 debits gives CHF 2,125.00. If an aggregate payment and its detailed items appear in different source files, identify the relationship before summing. A matching balance does not establish correct beneficiary references or replace an accounting reconciliation.
