Nationwide statements: PDF archive versus midata export
Nationwide’s statement archive and midata download should not be treated as interchangeable. The archive supplies issued documents, while midata is a current-account comparison export that excludes the most recent 31 days and masks some details. If you are checking a recent statement in Excel, those exclusions can explain missing rows without indicating an extraction failure. Choose the source that covers your actual question.
Get the right document first
- Log in to the Nationwide app or internet bank.
- In the app, open My Documents; in the internet bank, choose Documents.
- Select the account statement and available period, then download the PDF.
- For midata, use the desktop internet bank, select the current account and open Download transactions under Transactions.
- Choose Download midata only if you need that comparison export, then verify its dates and masked fields before using it.
Nationwide’s help describes up to 36 months of online statement PDFs. Midata has its own coverage and is not supported inside the app; it is not a substitute for a recent complete statement.
PDF statement or native transaction export?
The statement archive covers current-account, savings and credit-card documents described in Nationwide’s help. Keep the original PDF when checking any spreadsheet of its transactions. The available balance on a dashboard can differ from the statement balance, so use the period printed on the issued record.
Nationwide’s midata service is limited to current accounts. It describes a 12-month comparison history excluding the latest 31 days, with some transaction details blanked for privacy. That makes it unsuitable as an assumed complete extract of the latest statement cycle. Do not infer missing descriptions or dates from nearby rows.
Checks that matter for this account
Recent-period exclusion
If midata lacks recent activity, compare its stated coverage with the required period before blaming the spreadsheet import.
Masked description fields
Keep blanked or masked details distinct from genuinely empty source descriptions. The statement may be needed for a row-level reference check.
Savings and card scope
Do not use a current-account midata file to represent savings or credit-card activity. Select those accounts’ statement documents separately.
Joint account review
Nationwide notes either holder can download joint-account midata. A joint-account file covers shared activity, so do not attribute every payment to the downloading holder.
Build a spreadsheet you can review
For an Excel statement review, record the issued period and extract only its actual transaction rows. Keep a raw worksheet and a normalized worksheet. Preserve long references and sort codes as text, and verify the date order before calculating totals. If you use midata for a separate comparison, retain the original file unchanged.
For a synthetic current account, £1,500.00 opening plus £700.00 incoming minus £260.00 outgoing gives £1,940.00. A comparison export that ends earlier cannot prove this closing balance. First establish complete period coverage, then inspect signs and row counts. Arithmetic agreement is not evidence of statement authenticity or accounting classification.
