HSBC UK statements: download PDF, XLS or CSV for review
HSBC UK separates statement PDFs from transaction-list downloads. If your aim is to work in Excel, check the native XLS or CSV option before extracting a PDF. Keep the issued PDF alongside it for the account and period context. A filtered transaction download can omit rows even when its dates look right, so scope verification is the main task before checking totals.
Get the right document first
- Log on directly to HSBC UK online banking.
- For the issued PDF, choose Statements from the quick links, then select the account or statement type and period.
- For spreadsheet data, choose the account and open its transaction list.
- Use Search and filter to set the required dates; remove amount or keyword restrictions unless you deliberately need a subset.
- Run the search, use Download below the results and choose the available XLS or CSV format.
The HSBC UK app also provides PDFs through the account’s View statements option. Format choices documented for transaction downloads are separate from the PDF statement viewer.
PDF statement or native transaction export?
A statement PDF is an issued document for the selected period. HSBC UK documents statement history up to six years, subject to what is available for the account. Keep the original file when preparing a review so that source descriptions, balances and cycle dates remain available.
Native XLS and CSV files come from the transaction list. If your export is restricted to a merchant name or amount, it is useful for that search but cannot represent the full cycle. Do not apply this UK procedure to HSBC accounts in another country or assume that a Global Money product has the same account currency and statement scope.
Checks that matter for this account
Search filters change completeness
Record dates, account and active filters. A tidy export of one merchant’s payments is not a complete statement ledger.
Current account and card logic
A current-account credit increases cash; a credit-card payment reduces debt. Label the ledger type before normalizing signs.
Separate annual summaries
HSBC UK also provides annual credit-card statements. Do not add an annual summary to the same rows already imported from monthly cycles.
Document history after closure
HSBC UK says online statement history becomes unavailable after closure. Download records you need before closing rather than relying on future access.
Build a spreadsheet you can review
Use the spreadsheet import dialog for CSV and inspect day/month interpretation. Preserve sort code, account identifiers and references as text. Keep the original transaction description beside any category you assign, and retain the export filter settings in a source worksheet.
For a synthetic GBP current account, £1,200.00 opening plus £800.00 credits minus £350.00 debits gives £1,650.00. Compare against the same statement dates. If a search was filtered to a single merchant, label the result a subset and do not force its total to match the account closing balance.
