Westpac statements: PDF records and configurable CSV exports

Westpac provides issued eStatements and a separate transaction export workflow. Its Online Banking export lets you choose accounts, dates, file format and date format, which is useful for Excel but makes scope checking essential. A Westpac Tax organiser CSV is another distinct source: it is a selected list for review, not automatically the complete account ledger or a determination of tax treatment.

Get the right document first

  1. Sign in to Westpac Online Banking directly.
  2. For statement PDFs, use Overview and Statements, select the account, choose the period and download the document.
  3. For transaction data, open Overview and Exports and reports.
  4. Select the transaction export, then choose the date range, account scope, file format and date format.
  5. Export and save the file; record those selections before beginning the spreadsheet import.

The Westpac app also offers statement sharing and a recent-transaction download workflow. The configurable Online Banking export is a separate path; use the one that covers the required period.

PDF statement or native transaction export?

Westpac’s export help lists CSV, QBO, QIF and OFX for Online Banking. Choose CSV for a spreadsheet unless your downstream software requires another format. The date-format choice is part of the export itself, so record it rather than assuming a date such as 03/04 will be interpreted correctly on another computer.

The eStatement PDF retains the issued document and account period. Westpac’s Tax organiser can export a CSV of selected potentially relevant transactions; its selection and percentages serve a different purpose. Do not compare that subset directly with a full statement balance or treat a suggested category as accounting evidence.

Checks that matter for this account

  • Export date format

Preserve the chosen format with the file. A spreadsheet set to US dates can reverse day and month even when the source export is correct.

  • Multiple selected accounts

If the export covers several accounts, retain identifiers and check each account separately before producing a combined view.

  • Tax-organiser subset

Keep an organiser report separate from the complete transaction table. Relevance selections or assigned percentages are not replacement bank amounts.

  • Statement versus recent report

Check whether the app download is an issued statement or recent transactions. Their boundaries may differ even when both are PDFs.

Build a spreadsheet you can review

Preview CSV delimiter and dates in the import dialog, preserve BSB and long references as text, and retain the original description. Add source-account and requested-period fields before concatenating files. If you later classify expenses, keep the classification and percentage in separate columns from the posted amount.

For a synthetic AUD current account, A$1,800.00 opening plus A$1,100.00 received minus A$640.00 paid gives A$2,260.00. That check requires the complete posted population. A Tax organiser list containing only A$90.00 of selected expenses cannot demonstrate the account closing balance, even if its own subtotal is accurate.

FAQ · Westpac

Can Westpac export CSV without PDF extraction?

Yes. Its Online Banking help documents CSV and other supported formats through Exports and reports.

Where can I save a Westpac eStatement?

Use Overview and Statements in Online Banking, choose the account and period, then download the PDF. The app provides a statement sharing route as well.

Is the Tax organiser CSV a full bank statement?

No. It is a report of selected transactions used in that tool. Keep it distinct from the complete account record and independently verify any classification.
