CommBank statements: NetBank CSV and PDF review

CommBank provides both online statement PDFs and native NetBank transaction exports. For Excel work, start with CSV when the needed period is available. Current NetBank change guidance says OFX and QIF exports are no longer available, even though older export help still lists financial-software formats. Check the current interface and keep the issued PDF for a complete statement-period review.

Get the right document first

  1. Log on to NetBank directly and select the account you want to review.
  2. For the issued document, use View accounts and Statements, choose the account and statement date, then download.
  3. For transaction data, open the account’s transactions and use Advanced search to set the required period.
  4. Choose Export and select the currently available CSV option.
  5. Save the file and verify the selected dates and row count before importing it into Excel.

CommBank’s export help describes a maximum of 600 transactions per search/export. Its newer NetBank guidance supersedes the older help’s QIF/OFX availability: use the format actually offered today.

PDF statement or native transaction export?

The statement archive provides the issued PDF, while the CSV is a table of transaction information. CommBank documents dates, amounts, details and transaction-time balances in export guidance; inspect your downloaded columns rather than assuming a fixed layout across versions. It says debit amounts display as negative numbers.

The CommBank app also provides statement PDFs through the account’s Manage and View statement controls. CommBiz is a separate business service with its own export workflow; do not substitute CommBiz instructions for NetBank. Retain each original file and label the source channel when combining account data.

Checks that matter for this account

  • Current format availability

New NetBank guidance says CSV remains while OFX and QIF are removed. An older tutorial’s format list should not drive your export plan.

  • 600-transaction range

If your date range could exceed the documented ceiling, split it into smaller intervals and check adjacent dates for gaps or overlap.

  • Debit signs

CommBank’s export help describes negative debit amounts. Do not apply a second sign reversal simply because you classify the row as money out.

  • Closed-account scope

CommBank documents access to some recently closed accounts through NetBank. Check the actual account list and available statements instead of assuming the same access for every closure.

Build a spreadsheet you can review

Import CSV using a deliberate Australian date convention and preserve BSB, account and reference fields as text. Keep a raw sheet, then add normalized columns and a source-period field. If several exports are required, record their exact ranges before joining them.

For a synthetic AUD account, A$2,000.00 opening plus A$900.00 in credits and negative A$350.00 in debits gives A$2,550.00. A negative debit should enter the signed sum once. Compare the complete cycle with the PDF; a correct result does not prove every description, reference or page has been checked.

FAQ · Commonwealth Bank

Do I need PDF conversion to get CommBank rows into Excel?

Often no. NetBank supports CSV transaction exports. Check whether the available period and transaction count cover your review.

Why can I no longer find QIF or OFX in NetBank?

CommBank’s current feature-change page says those exports are no longer available and CSV remains supported.

What if my CommBank export is incomplete?

Check its dates and the documented 600-transaction ceiling. Use smaller recorded intervals and verify row coverage against the issued statements.
